Filemaker 15 – SSL Installation

Like the majority of server systems you will install your SSL certificate on the same server where your Certificate Signing Request (CSR) was created. Your private key will always be left on the server system where the CSR was originally created.

Your SSL certificate will not work without this private key file. We will assume that this is the original system.

To install your SSL certificate On Filemaker 15 perform the following.

Step 1: Downloading your SSL Certificate & its Intermediate CA certificate:

1. If you had the option of server type during enrollment and selected Other you will receive a x509/.cer/.crt/.pem version of your certificate within the email. Alternately you can access your Certificate User Portal by the supplied link in the email to pick up the x509 version of your certificate.
2. Copy the SSL certificate and make sure to copy the —–BEGIN CERTIFICATE—– and —–END CERTIFICATE—– header and footer Ensure there are no white spaces, extra line breaks or additional characters.
3. Use a plain text editor such as Notepad, paste the content of the certificate and save it with extension .pem
4. If your intermediate CA certificate for your product is not in the body of the email you can access your Intermediate CA also in a link within that email. Copy and paste the contents of your Intermediate CA into its own Notepad file and save it with a .pem extension also.
   Note: Some CA’s may give you an Apache Bundle or CA Intermediate Bundle. This will consist of two intermediates stacked on top of each other. These two intermediates are to be in one file.

Step 2: Importing your SSL Certificate and Intermediate: 

1. Click the Database Server > Security tab.
2. For SSL Connections, select or make sure that Use SSL for database connections is checked .
3. Click Import Certificate.
4. For Signed Certificate File, click Browse and select the SSL certificate file that you received from the certificate authority.
5. For Private Key File, click Browse and select the private key file (serverKey.pem) created in the CStore directory when you created the certificate signing request (CSR).
   Note: If you use a different method to create the CSR, for example using a CA’s website, then select the private key file you obtained through that method.
6. For Intermediate Certificate File, click Browse and select the intermediate certificate file.
7. For Private Key Password, enter the password used for your private key file when you created it.
8. Click Import to import the signed certificate.
9. Click Save.
10. If you change the Use SSL for progressive downloading setting or import a new custom SSL certificate, you must stop and restart the Database Server for the change to take effect.

Congrats you have just installed your Server Certificate to your Filmerker 15 system.
